Battery life

Lenovo’s Legion 7i offers excellent battery life for a gaming laptop, lasting over six hours on our test. That’s more than double what we saw from the Predator Helios 300 (3:14), and it’s nearly an hour longer than the Alienware m15 R2 (5:21).

Of course, your mileage may vary depending on how you use your laptop. If you’re gaming or doing other power-intensive activities, you won’t get anywhere near that six-hour mark. But for general use, the Legion 7i will last you all day long.

The Alienware m15 R2 fared much worse in our battery life test, only lasting for five hours and 21 minutes. That’s still better than most gaming laptops, but it falls short of the Legion 7i.

When it comes to battery life, the Lenovo Legion 7i is the clear winner. It lasted over six hours on our test, while the Alienware m15 R2 only lasted for five hours and 21 minutes.

Webcam and audio quality

When it comes to webcam and audio quality, the Lenovo Legion is definitely the better choice. The webcam on the Lenovo Legion is clear and crisp, while the audio quality is rich and full. The Alienware laptop, on the other hand, has a webcam that is grainy and blurry, and the audio quality is tinny and hollow.

Cooling system

Regarding cooling, the Lenovo Legion Y520 has a clear advantage over the Alienware 15 R3. The Legion Y520 comes with dual fans for better cooling, while the Alienware 15 R3 only has a single fan. Additionally, the Legion Y520 comes with an extra vent on the back of the laptop to help cool down the CPU and GPU.

Ports

When it comes to ports, the Lenovo Legion has the clear advantage. It has three USB 3.1 ports, one HDMI 2.0 port, one Mini DisplayPort 1.4, one Ethernet port, and one audio jack. The Alienware laptop only has two USB 3.1 ports, one HDMI 2.0 port, and one audio jack. This could be a dealbreaker for some people who need more than two USB ports or who want to use an Ethernet connection.

Operating system and warranty

When it comes to operating systems, Lenovo Legion laptops come with Windows 10 pre-installed, while Alienware laptops come with Windows 10 Pro. As for warranty, both companies offer a one-year limited warranty.

Pricing and configurations

Lenovo Legion and Alienware laptops are both high-end gaming laptops. They are similar in many ways, but there are also some important differences to consider.

Price is one of the most important factors when choosing a laptop. Lenovo Legion laptops start at $1,099, while Alienware laptops start at $1,299. So, if price is your main concern, the Lenovo Legion might be the better option.

However, it’s important to remember that price is not the only factor to consider. The configuration of the laptop is also important. For example, the Alienware 17 R5 has a higher-end processor and more powerful graphics card than the Lenovo Legion Y520. So, if you’re looking for the most powerful gaming laptop possible, the Alienware 17 R5 would be the better choice.

Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide which laptop is right for you. Consider all of the factors that are important to you and make your decision based on that.

Our take

We think that the Lenovo Legion is the better laptop for most people. It has a more powerful processor, a higher-quality display, and a slimmer design. The Alienware laptop is a bit heavier and bulkier and has a lower-resolution display.
